Orcas of the Salish Sea
On a whale-watching trip out of Sidney on Vancouver Island, I was fortunate enough to see two pods of Orcas (actually the largest dolphin, not a whale). One, the "transient" pod is a set of family groups hunting mammals like seals and otters. The second is the "resident" pod (aka the "J" pod), which eat salmon. The J-pod is endangered, having shrunk from 150 orcas a few years ago to about 75 now.
